GANG ALA BASTA

ABOUT US

The music of Gang-ala-Basta doesn’t really easily fit to any of the prevailing musical categories. Trip-hop mixed with electronics and guitars, or if you wish "...an ethereal marriage between the organic and electronic pulses of modern dance, providing textures that are challenging and fresh while presenting lyrics and melody that are thoughtful and relevant in the post-everything era.." (Think magazine), would be one of the possible classifications.

Gang-ala-Basta was founded in 1998 on a basis of preceding musical cooperation of Michal Pavlicek (drums) and Lukas Machal (keyboards). After meeting Milan Broum (guitars, baglama) a new project came to life. The band released their first record one year later, gaining respect and favor of both the Czech critique and audience. This was also the reason why they were chosen as support for Massive Attack for their concert in Prague in fall 1999. Creative composing, often in cooperation with eminent Czech artists, as well as numerous performances at domestic and foreign concerts and festivals followed in the following years. It was the time of progressive shaping of the band, the time when Gang-ala-Basta built up the awareness of an ever-broader audience and established their characteristic sound.
Between 2001 and 2002 the band made a take for Swiss TV as well as three takes for Czech TV.
In spring 2003 a new record came out, bringing the best tracks from the preceding two years together under a suitable name: GAB 00-02. The band then continued in intensive touring at both domestic and foreign venues.
After several personal changes, the three founding members were completed by Andrea Pliskova (vocals) and Tomas Lacina (bass) in fall 2007, shaping today’s face of Gang-ala-Basta. This formation is currently working on band’s third album which is to come out in the second half of 2008.
